Get rid of the annoying Microsoft error reports

Create nameless files and folders in Windows

This trick will allow you to create files and folders without any name.

Just follow the following steps:

1.Select any file or folder.
2.Right click on it,press rename or simply press F2.
3.Press and hold the alt key.While holding the Alt key,type numbers 0160 from the numpad.

Note:Type the numbers 0160 from the numpad,that is,the numbers present on the right side of the keyboard.Dont type the numbers which are present on top of the character keys.

4.Press Enter and the nameless file or folder will be created.

Reason:The file or folder that seems nameless is actually named with a single space.

But what if you want to create another nameless file or folder in the same directory ?

For this you will have to rename the file with 2 spaces.Just follow these steps below:

1.Select file,press F2.
2.Hold alt key and type 0160 from the numpad.
3.Release the alt key.Now without doing anything else,again hold alt key and press 0160.
4.Press enter and you will have second nameless file in the same directory.
5.Repeat step 3 to create as many nameless files or folders in the same directory.

Rename the Recycle Bin

It is indeed very simple to rename the recycle bin on your desktop.
Click start,then go to run.Now type regedit.
This will open the registry editor.In the registry editor go to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/CLSID/{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

and change the name “Recycle Bin ” to whatever you like(dont use any quotes).

Useful Windows Tricks you did not know…..

1.Go to start->run.Type regedit.Now go to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/CurrentVersion/Policies

Under this key, there will definitely be a key named explorer. Now under this explorer key we can create new DWORD values and modify it’s value to 1 in order to impose the restriction. If you want to remove the Restriction, then you can simply delete the respective DWORD values or instead change their values to 0. The following is a list of DWORD values that can be created under the Explorer Key-:

NoDeletePrinter: Disables Deletion of already installed Printers

NoAddPrinter: Disables Addition of new Printers

NoRun : Disables or hides the Run Command

NoSetFolders: Removes Folders from the Settings option on Start Menu (Control Panel, Printers, Taskbar)

NoSetTaskbar: Removes Taskbar system folder from the Settings option on Start Menu

NoFind: Removes the Find Tool (Start >Find)

NoDrives: Hides and does not display any Drives in My Computer

How to get rid of Windows Messenger

Just follow the following steps:

“Do not allow Windows Messenger to be run” and
“Do not automatically start Windows Messenger initially”

Get the keyboard on your desktop screen!!!!!

Do you want to use an onscreen keyboard .Its simple:

Just go to start press run.Now type osk and press enter.

You will get something like this

One click shutdown

Navigate to your desktop. On the desktop, right-click and go to New, then to Shortcut (in other words, create a new shortcut). You should now see a pop-up window instructing you to enter a command line path.

Use this path in “Type Location of the Item”
SHUTDOWN -s -t 01

If the C: drive is not your local hard drive, then replace “C” with the correct letter of the hard drive. Click the “Next” button. Name the shortcut and click the “Finish” button. Now whenever you want to shut down, just click on this shortcut and you’re done.

Hide all the Desktop icons !!!!

Here is a simple trick to hide all your desktop icons .
Just go to Start->run.Type regedit.
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER,then go to Software,then Microsoft,then to Windows,go to Current version,then policies and then click on explorer.

On the right hand side,right click and click on New.Then select DWORD value.
Rename this value as “NoDesktop” (without the quotes).Click on it and set its value to 1 in the value data space.Now restart your pc or just log off and log in back.
You will see that all your Desktop icons are gone.
To get back your icons,go to the DWORD value you created,now either delete it or set its value to 0.
In both cases you will get back all your icons.Try it out..

Suppose that if you have a gmail id by the name of faisssalmd@gmail.com,then it is same as faisssal.md @gmail.com and even same as f.a.i.s.s.s.a.l.m.d@gmail.com,yes this is true there is ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE between these 3 ids.Ah, now i know you want to check them yourselves….go on….

The reason for this is that the gmail server does not recognise the dot(.) character and so this kind of thing occurs.

And yes one more thing, one more name for your e-mail id would be faisssalmd@googlemail.com

Trick to lock your private folder

Suppose you want to lock the folder games in d: which has the path D:\Games.In the same drive create a text file and type
ren games games.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}
Now save this text file as loc.bat

Create another text file and type in it
ren games.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} games
Now save this text file as key.bat

Now you can see 2 batch files loc and key.Press loc and the folder games will change to control panel and you cannot view its contents.Press key and you will get back your original folder.
try it out!!!!!!!

Important note:How to rename your text files as bat files?
Just go to my computer->tools->folder options->go to the view tab.
Now uncheck the ‘Hide extensions for known file types’.Press apply.
Now rename ur text files as bat files.

Speed up your internet by 20% ..

Microsoft reserves 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes like Windows Updates and interrogating your PC etc

You can get it back:

Click Start then Run and type “gpedit.msc” without quotes.This opens the group policy editor. Then go to:
Local Computer Policy
then Computer Configuration
then Administrative Templates then Network then QOS Packet Scheduler and then to Limit Reservable Bandwidth.

Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the ‘Explain’ tab i.e.”By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default.”
So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO. This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%.It works on Win 2000 as well.

Boot your Computer Faster

Many computers take a lot of time to boot (or start ).This is due to many reasons.

Some slight changes can do wonders for your system:

1.Press start->run then type msconfig and press enter.

Go to the startup tab.Here you will see a list of startup items.These are all the programs that automatically start when you boot your PC.It is these that slow down the boot up process.

So uncheck all the unwanted items(like msoffice,messengers other utilities that u may not need at startup).Dont uncheck your antivirus software.

Restart your Pc to and see for yourself, your pc will now boot faster….

2.A great new feature in Microsoft Windows XP is the ability to do a boot defragment. This places all boot files next to each other on the disk to allow for faster booting. By default this option is enabled,but on some systems it is not, so below is the information on how to turn it on:

Go to Start Menu and Click Run
Type in regedit then click ok
Find “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOpt imizeFunction”
Select “Enable” from the list on the right
Right on it and select “Modify”
Change the value to Y .
Reboot your Pc and see the change yourself.

Search Engine tricks

Having a hard time finding something online? Does it seem like you type in your search term

but don’t get anywhere near what you’re looking for?

Well, here are a couple of tricks that seem (almost) universal for search engines.

Let’s say you’re looking for sports cars and all you’re getting is information on baseball and football (sports). What can you do? Try some of the following:

1. Try:

sports +cars

Most search engines will interpret this as meaning you only want results that have both the word “sports” and “cars” in them. Some search engines let you us the word “and” to do this as well (i.e. sports and cars).

2. You can also try to exclude terms. Let’s say you still aren’t getting what you want with sports cars (you still keep getting baseball info). Try something like:

sports +cars -baseball

The “-” sign tells most search engines to exclude results that have whatever word it is that has the “-” in front of it. (Don’t put a space between the – and the word to be excluded though!)

3. If the above seems too confusing, most search engines have an “advanced search” option that gives you a web-style way to help you accomplish the same thing. Instead of using “+ / -” they use drop down boxes and option buttons. It is usually easier to search this way, although it’s probably faster to use steps 1 & 2.

4. The next thing you might try is being more specific. Instead of just sports cars , maybe use exotic sports cars . Try different combinations of search terms until you get what you’re after. (Careful with that word “exotic” though!)

5. Also, you may want to try using quotes. If you type in:

“sports cars”

You should only get results that match that exact phrase in that exact order. Sometimes that can narrow things down considerably.

6. If all else fails, try a different search engine.

Of course the favorite is Google, but there are thousands of search engines out there and not all of them support the tips above. If you’re having trouble, look for a link for search tips, search help, advanced search, or how to search. Most search engines have lot of information on how to use them successfully
